Este es uno de los últimos sets de rolas que he mezclado y he grabado. Son rolitas que me gustan mucho y me encanta escucharlas. Es el set de los Edits, de los temitas ochenteros y del Funk Solemne!!

Tambien es una especia de agradecimiento a la banda que anda haciendo cosas bien chidas en las redes sociales. Banda que le pone su toque personal a verdaderas gemitas musicales del pasado. Mucha de esa música yo no lo conocía y la he conocido gracias a la gente que actualmente trabaja mucho en los muy de moda "Edits"...

Tremendo EP que me acabo de encontrar y va por cuenta de Roberto Marrero a.k.a Dynamicron. Este productor nació en el año de 1978 en España, especificamente en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y desde pequeño tuvo un gran interés en la música al grado de que gastaba su dinero en comprar cassettes para escucharlos y luego reproducir las melodías en su teclado.

Así pues luego de varios Edits en la disquera Los Grandes (que por cierto es su porpia disquera) sale esta gemita de EP que incluye dos tracks: 1) Believe (Edit) y 2) Animal Land (Edit).

Para iniciar la semana tenemos una gran propuesta. Una propuesta que llega desde Estados Unidos, de la costa de California: Los Angeles!

La escena musical de Los Angeles ha tenido un despunte importante con artistas como Classixx, Fabian y mas recientemente Goldroom. Y es que todos ellos han puesto el nombre de Los Angeles en la escena Disco/Pop/ mundial. Si tomamos en cuenta que la escena musical de California ha estado inundada por diversos generos como el Hip-Hop, la tarea de los artistas californianos no ha sido sencilla.

Su nombre es Josh Legg y es conocido en el universo musical como Goldroom! Pertence al colectivo Binary Entertainmente que agrupa a artistas muy interesantes como Fabian, Lancelot, Short Circuit, Nightwaves (proyecto de Josh Legg) y muchos más.

Josh Legg inicia con su proyecto Nightwaves (Synth Pop+ Rock Electronico) y despues de tener su mente llena de nuevas ideas decide lanzar su nuevo proyecto: Goldroom!

Después de haber sido lanzado en la compilación del Sr. Vito de Luca, mejor conocido como Aeroplane, el tema Something You Can Feel de Stars On 33, sale acompañado de nuevo material en la disquera Eskimo Recordings: Let The Music Guide.

El EP trae tremendos temas Disco/House y el tracklist es el siguiente:

El proyecto está formado por Kris Menace y Lawrence Tompson y su dirección House/Disco/Synth Pop está fuertemente presente en todo el EP. La melodía formada por los pinchazos al teclado/piano no deja de sonar en el EP y nos gusta la forma en que el mood de los tracks va tomando fuerza conforme los tracks van llegando a su climax...Keep Dancing y LUV siguen esa línea mientras que This Is Love toma un approach diferente: mas Disco/Punk sin dejar de lado las melodías construídas con los sintetizadores...

Por cierto, el EP salió a la venta al público el día 19 de diciembre y está disponible en vinil y digital.

"Beginning with the radiophonic, fragmented house of JR Seaton’s No Other Place, a track built from the driest of saw waves and plasmic lofi vocals, it slips on into the quick thrust 808 funk of Headman’s latest Be Loved. Be Loved features the vocals of Belfast singer Rosie Blair from the band Boy of Girl. We then glide through the straight Chicago cut of Andreas Esu’s Dance in Space, popping NRG/Italo from both Chmmr’s collaboration with Glaswegians Den Haan and also Hannulelauri’s Europa, a strict reverence to Europe’s dance legacy.

The second half throws up a new track from International – the collaboration between Robi Insinna and Stefano that has already offered up the single River Seine this summer – that continues in their early 90s vein and the Fear of Theydon disco house remix of Montevideo. Fear of Theydon will be known to most of you via his Sunday Best remixes in which he worked with David Lynch and Beardyman amongst others. La vida es una contínua cadena de eventos/momentos. Lo importante es lo trascendente que uno haga de esos momentos. Las pequeñas cosas que trascienden en nuestra vida hacen que valga la pena vivir.

Así las cosas, hace algunos días encontré en mi buzón un correo de Thomas de Hemptinne, un musico belga que pertenece a una banda que se llama Great Mountain Fire.

Además de presentarse y saludarme muy amablemente, esto es algo de lo que Thomas me escribió:

"Our inspiration comes from a wide range of music around indie-pop: Post-punk, Disco Bassline, Afrobeat, Krautrock, Falsetto Voices, Electronic musics and Psychedelic Folk... Imagine "Talking Heads" being remixed by "Raymon scott", "Phoenix " covering "Neu!" or "Sigur Ross " playing with "Serge Gainsbourg"... no, dont think too much ,... just listen and make it your idea...

Y eso es lo que hice: Me fuí de vacaciones, a acampar....y escuché! Y que agradable sorpresa en mis oídos. El disco atrajo toda mi atención desde las primeras notas de la primera rola que sonó en mis oídos (Gypsy Father) . Y así siguió el resto de disco: Cada rola mejor que la primera. En fin, no me clavaré en detalles musicales muy profundos. A fin de cuentas, la música es para quien la escucha...solo eso.

Canopy me pareció un concepto musical que yo relacioné mucho hacia la siguiente dirección: Una muy interesante mezcla del sonido de Metronomy(con la exepción de que que Great Mountain Fire está vestido con sonidos mas cálidos: bateria, guitarras, etc. tocado en vivo) con Phoenix. Con sus diferentes atmosferas y tiempos, me parece un disco muy completo pero sobretodo muy divertido y lleno de creatividad.

Introducing a new combo borne from the skies somewhere south of the Alps, Relish welcomes International. Comprised of Robi Insinna and Stefano, a Subbuteo enthusiast, International is an outlet for their washed out baggy tendencies, both being fond of the wrecked beauty that Boy’s Own once possessed. Stefano is a ‘21st century modernist who loves all kind of soul music, from from northern soul to balearic.’ Having supported Hercules & Love Affair, and provided the soundtrack for Jil Sander and Raf Simons events Stefano came to Robi’s attention.

Closer in concept to his earlier Manhead outings, the first release – River Seine – is an Ibiza meets Manchester piano driven number. 909 snares, simple delays and tightly enveloped chords lend that Detroit nod that so typified the ambitions of the UK producers through the years of homage for experiments sake. Somewhere The Face was on sale and skin-tights were banished: here lies a tribute conjured from the rays of hope and positivity that that time offered.

Remix duty is carried out by Kim Ann Foxman and Newcastle band The Porters. Foxman rolls on from her spate of recent dj appearances and Hercules & Love Affair’s world tour following their hit album Blue Songs. She even added a bit of her own vocal. Hailing from the foot of the Toon, Mike and David Porter are two classically trained Geordies who collect transistor, valve and analogue hardware. With their remix of River Seine the two ex-madchester acolytes return to their roots to offer an original cover to round off the EP.

Pues los que me siguen en twitter sabrán lo pulsado que estoy con este nuevo proyecto. Francamente me parece extraordinario lo que hicieron, y además como fanático de la música electrónica, me emociona ver que también hay influencia de lo contemporáneo a lo clásico. Dense una idea de lo que debió haber sido este concierto con el siguiente video. En lo particular me hubieran gustado mas tracks en el disco con las voces de estas big mamas que ahora verán, pero de cualquier modo me encantó.

Acá en Juan Sinmiedo estamos muy contentos porque vamos a iniciar actividades para festejar nuestro segundo aniversario: ReelToReel Party !

ReelToReel se trata de música, música y música. Mas a detalle se trata de MIXTAPES !! Nosotros definimos un MIXTAPE de la siguiente manera: PAUSE + REC+PAUSE +PLAY   Recuerdan haber hecho mixtapes con cassettes?? Pos así es la movida. Sin mucho rollo: MIXTAPE es una selecciòn de rolas grabadas para cumplir con un propósito y/o transmitir un mensaje, emoción, sentimiento, etc.

Como dice Marta Vargas en su escrito: " El mixtape, surgió en Estados Unidos a finales de los sesenta en el formato 8 track. Éstos solían venderse en el mercado y contenían compilaciones de los éxitos del momento. Con la popularización del casete en los años ochenta, los mixtapes pasaron de ser algo que “se compraba” a algo que “se hacía en casa”. Eran el regalo perfecto, la música de las fiestas, el acompañante en largos viajes de carretera, y tu acompañante musical en casi cualquier situación. El mixtape era una muy cuidadosa selección de canciones guiada por una temática, humor o propósito. Es por esto que hacer un buen mixtape no era cosa fácil"

Así que queremos festejarnos con un concurso de Mixtapes: "SONIDOS MONOFONICOS" y con esto abrimos la convocatoria: BUSCAMOS AL WARM-UP DE LA NOCHE!
Anna Stephens y Bonnz ( Hello Seahorse) serán nuestros DJ's invitados y estamos buscando quien caliente la pista de baile!

What do we get when looking for fresh, cool, funky edits for CD-only Dj's?? Well, simple: Fingermanedit!

Gregg Holmes also known as Fingermanedit is doing an amazing work! He's re-editing some serious funky, super kick-ass tracks. And above all, some of them are available for us to download! But the Juan Sinmiedo crew is interested in the man behind these hot edits. These edits have been played in our gigs and might been recognized or not, but lets get back to business and talk about the finger on the decks.... (?...) or should I say the finger on the edits??? Well lets just say FINGERMANEDIT....

Who is Fingerman? How would you define yourself musically speaking?

Hullo. I'm Fingerman (Or Fingermanedit)... I was born in 1977 in Portsmouth Uk. Musically? Right now i'm feeling Disco-Funk and Deep House sounds... Overall tho I like many styles of music.

What kind of musical background do you have?

Not much to be honest. I've been surrounded by music since I was a kid. My parents were proper hippies... They were into Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Crosby Stills & Nash etc. I didnt really get into music until I was at college really though.

How and why did you started interesting in music?

Back in college I was a major Techno Head. Psy trance too. I can thank my sister for switching me on to music... I started Djing techno then house, breaks and other genres... The bass thing a few years ago was too much and I began buying funk records as myself and a friend had a residency in Brighton at a funk and jazz club.

Since when do you think disco became well rated? Why do you think this happened?

Disco is one of those genres of music that will never go away. It always raises a smile because its timeless.

How did you come up with the idea of sharing music with people on the internet? Why do you give you music away for free?

Well... Because I'm just editing songs I don't think I should really charge for it... It started as a means to play out tracks I like and have them work in a dj set. When I actually start producing decent remixes and tracks maybe then I'll start charging people. Soundcloud has been a God-send to myself and many other producers in the scene.

Your profile on soundcloud is full of edit, re-edit and so on. Why? Are you planning to produce you own music?
I hope so yes! At the moment i'm still PC bound... when I get an Apple Mac later in the year I hope to start making my own tracks and remixes with better software. I'm luck to be surrounded by friends who also make music.

Do you think music should be free? Why or why not?
I don't think it should all be free. If there's anything that REALLY floats my boat then I'm happy to pay for it! Unfortunately most types of music these days is very disposable... Have you hear daytime UK radio these days? Shocking...! There's no way I'd pay for that! And by the way that the music industry is going at the moment, I'm not the only one who wouldn't pay for it either!

How's the musical scene around your hometown: Portsmouth? Describe...

Its not bad. Quite a-lot of big room house & techno nights. Dubsteps pretty big here too... mind you where isn't it in the UK? There's a blossoming Nu-Disco scene coming up thanks to the "COR" lot and guys like "The Night People"... The stalwart guys at "FUNKTIFINO" bang it out on a regular basis... Classic funk and disco gear... There's a distinct lack of decent venues however which is a shame.

Describe a casual/normal day in your life...
I work full time which is crap! Haha! Other than that I just bum around with my Girlfriend and Cat and see my friends. My neighbour is one of my oldest friends which is cool. Most of the friends I grew up with are still here in Portsmouth.

Can you talk about your production set up?

I'm an Ableton Man... I Dj with CDJ's... Old skool hands on feel innit. Thinking to getting into Serato at some point but I have a fobia of Laptops crashing mid set! :-S

Musically speaking who is your hero? Band or producer...

Hero for his taste in music - Greg Wilson. Fave band? Propbably The Super Furry Animals...

Hola Gente!

Suponemos que todos andan con pilas recargadas después de estos días de descanso y/o reflexión. Nosotros también!

Arracamos esta semana con una breve reseña de la visita de Chuck Pereda a Querétaro, específicamente a uno de nuestros bares predilectos: Pulp Bar. La visita fue el pasado viernes 15 de Abril y debemos decir que el bar estuvo lleno y la banda llevaba puesta la actitud bailadora y muy prendida. Nos latió mucho la respuesta de la gente en la pista de baile.

La noche arrancó con un gran "calentador". St. Paper inició con los beats pasadas las 10:30 PM y estuvo pinchando Deep House. La noche fue entrando en calor, si, mas calor aún, y un poco antes de la media noche Chuck se paró en las tornamesas y continuó con la fiesta. Continuó con la linea del House, pasando por rolas con influencias noventeras (Azari & III y su temazo Reckless For Your Love) Y ya mas tarde pudimos escuchar algunos tracks con tintes discoides hasta llegar al Technoy Elektro y la banda no paró de brincar y gritar. La noche fue redonda!

También nos dimos a la tarea de entrevistar a Chuck Pereda, para conocerlo, saber sobre su vida y sobre su formación musical. Así que acá la entrevista:

Black Magic Records is an Independent Record Label based in Italy and was created in 2010 by Dj/Producer and friend of us: Enzo Ponzio (We already had a nice little interview with Mr. Ponzio so you can check it here )

As our close funky friend: Splattermonkey.This time we decided to Interview canadian friend who has been so active in the Toronto area. He has been active for 8 years, holds the "Shindig" party in the Italian neighbourhood on Toronto. He is also the guest in a weekly funky party called "Pass The Butter". And if this is not enough he co hosts a radio Show, BruckBeat Radio" on Monday evenings on CKLN 88.1 Ryerson University...Oh and I almost forgot: he can spin ska, reggae, afro beat, tropicalia, hip hop, funky breaks, house, electro house, booty house, deep house, future funk and soul, broken beat, drum and bass, jungle and dubstep...

Exclusive Interview: SPLATTERMONKEY

1. Why Splattermonkey??
Thought it sounded cool and suited my personality.

2. How did you come up with Splattermonkey?
The name came from a painting that a friend made for me as a gift. I started collecting things with images of monkeys and apes on them when I was in High School. Back then I was calling myself "Monkey Boy" My friend splattered paint all over a canvas and made it into an image of a monkey and gave it to me as a gift. I called the painting my "Splattermonkey" painting. One day I was sitting in my room trying to think of a good DJ name because the ones I had previously chosen were either already taken or they sounded lame. I looked up at my painting and it hit me. Splattermonkey was born.

3. How's the Bruckbeat radio show doing?
The show's doing well. We're currently having problems with our broadcast licence at CKLN 88.1 fm because of a "non compliance" issue with the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, but Bruckbeat Radio will continue as long as people are listening and people are still making great music for us to play.

4. Have you ever Dj outside Canada? Where?
No. I've never played outside of Canada. I've only played in cities in my own province of Ontario. I've tried to set up gigs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States and in London, England but my contacts there never came through with anything. So, I just ended up buying all their records

5. We know from your Facebook profile, you studied at Off Centre DJ School. Can you describe your time a this Centre?
Off Centre DJ School is a School for DJs run by Toronto's DJ Steptone of iNSiDEaMiND. iNSiDEaMiND is a turntable band from Toronto who specialize in improvised music composition. DJ Steptone taught me "scratch" theory and technique in a "one on one" tutorial environment. Steptone is a great teacher and can teach anyone from all skill levels. I personally went there to learn how to scratch better because I felt I already had all the other DJ skills like "beat matching" "mixing" and staying in "key." Steptone teaches every skill that DJs need to learn but I went there specifically to learn how to "scratch."

6. When and how did you fall in love with music?
I've been in love with music my whole life. When I was a baby my mother used to put me in a playpen in our living room beside the family stereo and play music constantly either from records or 8-Track Cassettes or FM radio. I would just play and listen. The music was very soothing to me as a baby and I've always had to have music on ever since. My earliest childhood memory is falling asleep to "Family Affair" by Sly and The Family Stone. Funky music has always been my favorite.

7. Can you tell us a little bit about the music scene in Toronto??
Toronto has an amazing music scene. There are hundreds of amazingly talented musicians, bands, singers, producers, songwriters and DJs playing all kinds of different sounds from all over the world. My only complaints about the music scene in Toronto is that it seems that the talent has to be recognized by people outside of the country in order for people in Toronto to realize that they are really good. Although that kind of attitude is not as popular as it used to be. Torontonians are starting to wake up and support local talent more and more in the last few years and it is creating more unity and a sense of community among the musicians and Djs who live and perform here. My other complaint is that a lot of people in this city don't seem to want to go out and see a performance until about midnight. I've been to cities like Paris and London and I've seen parties going strong as early as 9:30 p.m. but in Toronto, people don't show up until after midnight and the bars stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m. and they want to shut the party down at 3 a.m. That only gives us three hours to have a good time. We still have some "after hours" clubs but not many. The Police do a very good job at shutting these kind of parties down.

8. What is your greatest fear?
A world without music. Rape and Torture.

9. What advice you should have taken but did not?
Start using a laptop to DJ with.

10. Vinyl, Cd's ?? Can you tell us your thoughts on laptor DJ's..??
99.9% Vinyl. I sometimes use CDs if I want to play a song that I haven't found on vinyl but for me part of the fun in being a DJ is the thrill of the hunt and the excitement I feel when I find a song on vinyl. I have nothing against Laptop DJs as long as they use high quality MP3s and use the software to create a unique dance floor vibe. There is nothing more boring than a lazy DJ who pays no attention to the crowd and pre-mix or pre-BPM all of their music. Low quality MP3s sound like the music was recorded in a tin can. No highs and no bass. Part of the fun in going out to dance is hearing good quality music and the creative ways DJs put different types of songs together to keep the party rocking.

11. Do you think music should be free? Why or Why not....
Ideally, I'd like to see us evolve to society that no longer has any use for a monetary system but since that isn't happening any time soon, I don't think music should be free. I pay for most of my records and I feel good about it. Artists deserve to be paid for their work like everyone else. Sometimes I get free records from labels who feel that I could give the artist good exposure on the radio show or my podcast but I always make sure to tell people where they can buy the record or pay to download the MP3s.

12. How has Facebook / Internet help in your Dj career?
Facebook and the internet has helped my DJ career immensely. I started DJing before MySpace, and my e-mail contact list was small. I used to stand outside parties and hand out flyers and put up posters all over the city. This was very time consuming and all I wanted to do was stay home and practice my sets and listen to records. When MySpace and then Facebook came out, I was able to connect with like-minded people easier and get the word out about my parties and gigs without having to leave my house. I also started my podcast and gave people the opportunity to listen to the type of music I played. A poster and a flyer can only do so much, but if you send someone a mix, they can really get a sense of what the party is all about.

13. In your pesonal opinion, how is music related in human history/culture?
I found that aggressive underground music seems to be more popular in desperate economic times. During the recession in the early 1990s, bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden were very popular. When the economy started to come back, bands like the Backstreet Boys and Nsync were very popular. Recently, loud aggressive electronic music has been very popular and I can see a resurgence of Pop acts like Justin Beiber and Michael Buble becoming more popular if things start to bounce back. That's what I've observed in my time. Music has always reflected the social economic situation in lyrical content as well as the types of sounds being played. Music affects mood and mood dictates the types of sounds that you feel like playing.
Culturally, musical style is very important. As a Canadian I find that I have a choice in the kind of culture, I want to be a part of. I chose Hip Hop for the longest time but as I got older I found myself being drawn more and more to the culture of the 1970s and the 1960s and now, more recently, I find myself being drawn more to the culture of the 1950s. The clothes I wear and the way I speak all relates to the type of music I listen to. I'm really into Rockin' Rhythm &;Blues from the late 1950s right now. Ya' dig?

Exclusive Interview: Son Of Funk Rocco Raimundo:

1. Who is Rocco Raimundo and how would you define your productions/music?

Rocco Raimundo is the idea of a total disco maestro, conceived last year in the hope of contributing and maintaining todays disco/funk sound. I don't actually know how I would define my sound to date, its hard to specify a unique sound when it comes to edits, my aim is to basically create a unique sound that people cant resist partying/making love to. (ha ha)...

2. Edits...Why edits?

Why edits you ask? Well, I guess it's all about bringing back classics. I love the idea of finding or coming across a total jam and giving it a unique feel, but at the same time staying true to the original.

3. What is Pollo Erotico? Why Pollo Erotico?

Pollo Erotico is a blog. It's run by my partner in crime, Bennie Del Rio and I. We chose the name Pollo Erotico because its got that sleazy feel, and plus, it just sounded cool and fit with the theme we were aiming for! We've had guestmixes by guys like Gazeebo, Drop Out Orchestra and The C90s and we have some new exciting ones coming up in the near future. We're also looking to make the transition and turn Pollo Erotico into a record label, so stay tuned!

4. What kind of musical background do you have?

While growing up, I was barely ever playing instruments etc. I think its more so the infatuation of music that gets to me. I am however getting the hang of playing with keys etc, and also eager to learn how to play bass/guitar.

5. What drove your attention into disco?

Good question, I guess i've loved it ever since I first heard it. When I was a little younger and partying constantly, I was really into generic dance music & techno, and I guess when I first started listening to disco, it was a kind of 'love at first sight' feeling, almost an obsession if you will.

6. Can you describe the music scene in Monaco...

Sweaty.

7. As in your Soundcloud profile says: "...young Rocco spent his childhood running amongst the vineyards of Bordeaux..." Tell us what is your happiest memory from back then...

It was all one happy memory, you can't get much better then cruising around vineyards with Cerrone on repeat.

8. We noticed you're getting ready to perform Dj Sets...What exactly do you have in mind? Any special idea bubbling in your mind??

No ideas yet really, just going to go with the flow & accept whatever gigs come my way. Basically going to be strictly disco/funk.....Anything with a party vibe

9. Musically speaking who would you like to work with?

I'd love to work with the Disco Deviance crew, my edit of 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac is due to be released on 12" vinyl on Disco Deviance's Tribute Series in early April.

10. Do you have any favourite label?

Favourite labels would have to be Permanent Vacation, Editainment, Disco Deviance and Dikso.

11. Your greatest fear...?

Disco becoming extinct.

12. Your heroes in real life...?

Parents.

13. Champagne? Whisky? A joint? or a beer? to party like a bastard....

All of the above.

14. What do you expect of this year- 2011?

My debut 12" vinyl, a couple of new EP's, DJing and the beginning of our own Label.
